Free Spirit

School has reached the busiest point in the semester: assignments are due right and left, tests every week... and then finals. So I haven't been composing as I need to. So before I reach utter chaos, I wanted to stop by and post some trailer music I just finished... it's called Free Spirit. What do you think?

I had thought about doing a complete April Fool's post, saying something like I was signed on to compose to the next Narnia or X-Men movie, or maybe that I had given up writing music and was going to take up professional skateboarding. Or underwater basket weaving. But... I didn't. haha

Thanks for listening,

Jonathan Maiocco

  1. Sounds like where my semester is at. :P Good luck! :)

Loved this song... it felt epic and very much like it should go to an absolutely fascinating story. :) Very cool.

  2. As I listen to this a second time, I'm really liking it! The melody seems a bit more rounded, yet simple, which is nice! I can definitely see this in a trailer. Maybe a game trailer this time?

Now I'm listening a third time. I enjoy how a lot of your music has an unconventional overlying beat sometimes.

At 1:30 I really like the underlying violins. (I LOVE violins) This has quite an epic feel. There is enough time with louder, dramatic music to get lots of trailer material in, and the piano and chimes ending is great.

I like the image you put up with the piece, and thanks for fixing the genre list! The size issue was bugging me :P

    1. Thanks Noah! (I LOVE violins too! I'm pretty sure I overuse them... but hey, that's OK I guess. haha)
And yes, the list thing was bugging me too! haha. I didn't know if anyone noticed or something. I guess you did! haha :D

  3. *gasp* *sits in silent wonder* This is just amazing! You've pulled in so many feelings to make one sound! It's soooooo heart pounding!!!!!!!! Intense, perfect, lovely beautiful! Somewhere somehow You've really stepped up your music again...how do you make each piece of music so good!!!!! It's just amazing! I love the length, the feeling the epic drama, the slow build at the beginning and how you slowly tantalize us with it at the end.... *shiver* and then it's gone. Beautiful! Brilliant!!!! Epic!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 it! *listens again and again*

Underwater basket weaving...now that would be an interesting job...quite a fun one I imagine but...somehow I love your music sooooo much better.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful, amazing epic gift of music!!!!!

  5. I've always thought you were an amazing composer, but you blow me away every time. Each song I listen to is just that much better than the last. I am in awe of your talent. I honestly would not be that surprised if they did sign you on for the next Narnia movie. Underwater basket weaving? I'm not sure what to say to that. It would be a very interesting talent. It might be hard to hold your breath that long.

    1. Well thank you Anonymous! Thank you. (It would be kinda cool to do the next Narnia movie! haha) And yeah, I don't know if I could hold my breath that long... but then again, last summer I tried holding my breath underwater and I went for 1:40... probably still not long enough.
