January 2013

First post of 2013!

School has started. Classes are good. Right now, I'm practicing a lot for my junior piano recital, which is February 13th. I just had my piano juries and passed, so I can officially have the recital. Piano performance is not my forte (pun intended), so I have been performing in nursing homes and for friends to get used to performing.

As far as composing is concerned, I haven't had a lot of time. But every now and then, I get a spare minute to do something... I thought I would post something I've been working on. It'll be for the Celtic album. It's just a sketch...

Thoughts? (I know, it's not traditional celtic, but then that makes me think: what do I call it? What genre is it? Maybe I should just invent a new genre and be done with it...)

After the recital, I leave Feb. 15th for the Dominican Republic (like last year) and I'll be gone for a week. Hopefully after that, I will start composing again.

Thanks for listening,

Jonathan Maiocco

P.S. I'm sharing my recital with my friend Lanae (she plays the French horn). We had to make posters to hang around the GSU School of Music, so my brother and I spoofed some movies posters. It was fun.

  1. Love the preview! It almost sounds like some sort of medieval sailing adventure to me... :)
Those posters are awesome! Have fun on your trip!

  2. Love the posters! ;) Good job.

I like the Celtic piece. It's not the traditional Celtic sound, but that just makes it more interesting!

  3. These recital posters are ridiculous. Ridiculously rad. Can't wait to be there for it!

  4. That song is AWESOME. My family and I love your music, Celtic especially. We were really excited when we heard you were doing a Celtic album. Can't wait for it to come out!

I think you should call this song something like "Longships", or maybe "Dublin's Port". Something with wild activity or boat-related.

  5. Hey, Jon! Awesome song and awesome posters! Hope the recital went well. I nominated you for an award on my blog, Stori Tori's Blog! Check out the link for details!

  6. I like this sketch! I do see the imagery of the sea, like others noted. But, the wild beauty of Scot*land* shines through too.

    And those posters are awesome!

  7. OH I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! HOW I HAVE I NOT COME OVER AND LISTENED TO IT BEFORE!!!!!! I WANT THIS MUSIC!!!!!! *begs for music release to come soon* You've always been amazing - and I don't know how you do it but each piece gets better and better... I LOVE IT!!!

Ha! Those posters are so much fun! Your brother has epic art skills... that is amazing.
